     it takes time to keep the server up, yes? even if you do it for fun and a hobby you're providing a service. people tend to place a higher value on something they can connect to a dollar.

     and maybe it starts a trend where you start being sysop for other fedi instances and make a business. shit why didn't i do this?

     @icedquinn @ax3 yea, but i don't know the first thing about running a business let alone a vps provider one. I'd also have to know how to debug pleroma in order to start something like that which would take a ton of time for me to learn

     i'd still use buyvm for most things but this is not too bad, looks like its about 10$/tb which is pretty cheap compared to most. i like my 5/tb myself though

     @nyanide @icedquinn @ax3 yes, can confirm it can be complex. I just started this adventure myself and it was harder than I imagined and even then, when you get a instance up, you can end up like me where you kind of feel like you are just posting into the void because you have almost no followers =/

     @Sovereign @nyanide @ax3 business wise there's a lot of paperwork and accounting to do. getting licenses, name permit, set up some kind of invoice system.
     
     a lot of people buy off the shelf management consoles etc.
