Texas’ main grid operator predicts power demand will nearly double by 2030, in part due to more requests to plug into the grid from large users like data centers, crypto mining facilities, hydrogen production plants and oil and gas companies.

Texas will serve as ground zero, with 10 data centers by the venture already under construction in the state, 10 more on the way and the first project based in Abilene. Each building will occupy half a million square feet.

I dare predict that 90% of all those new AI datacenters will be dead ruins in a few years. As for the "hydrogen economy", it is 100% a scam.

Hydrogen as a fuel for transportation has so many technical and economic problems that we cannot realistically expect it to ever make a dent on CO2 emissions. And EVs will not be of much help either. To reduce CO2 emissions from transportation, the only viable solution is to expand and improve the mass transit infrastructure so that people will use it instead of personal cars for most of their travel, like shopping and commuting. 🧵>

      What about "wild hydrogen" ?
I've read only one article about it, but it seemed promising.

🧵> Morever, even if we managed to convert most of the cars to run on hydrogen, people would inevitably choose buy hydrogen made from natural gas, because it is much cheaper than other sources. But that would merely shift the CO2 release to the hydrogen plants...

That is why oil/gas companies are financing hydrogen research...
