Yesterday I announced to my #instagram I was done. I'm leaving, and so in a week after I've given my followers time to reach out for my contact info I will be deleting the app.

#Mastodon and the #Fediverse have been such a breathe of fresh air when it comes to social media - thanks all of you people 👊

However, I've realized there are barriers to entry, so, I want to put together a blog for my photographer buds. A list of "best practices" 1/2 🧵

2/2 🧵the #Fediverse has it's own unspoken rules. I'm hoping others here can help me out together a proper list - in the context of photographers - that would be good to know whenever they do join.

      So far I have:
      - Adding Alt text to images
      - Day of the Week photo games e.i. #TreeTuesday and #MountainMonday etc.
      - #Pixelfed vs #Mastodon and how the fediverse works with account tags and servers
      - Public vs Quiet Public vs Private messages.
      - CamelCase and why

      What else should I cover?

      @geoff_eg Welcome 🤩

Those are great points. I would also add:
      - use hashtags, both in your own posts, and to find interesting posts / people
      - boost. A lot!
      - expect to have a smaller number of followers, but (hopefully) more active conversations
      - talk to people much like you would at a party, or when meeting them on the street.
      - Block anyone who annoys you. Don't put up with nasty people.

@trebach @geoff_eg Ah yes, CWs. In practice, it's best to think of them as headlines or keywords for your post.

The goal is to enable your followers to decide whether they want to read / look at your post right now, or not.

      - Content warnings (they're mandatory on certain servers)

@slothrop great additions! I have definitely mentioned the block party conversation to them, not sure why I didn't think to make that it's own specific point.

@geoff_eg In the beginning, people often assume that blocking is impolite, or will give them a bad reputation.

In reality, it just lets you grow a really nice community. For the most part, the people you've blocked will never notice.
