There is a theory that the Renaissance came about because the Vikings sacked the monasteries and released their gold hoards into circulation, causing an economic boom in Europe.

Something similar could happen in our time once the people realize the billionaires have giant hoards of money.

As Nick Hanauer says, we may get to a time of torches and pitchforks if they don't stop hoarding money so flagrantly.
