    Look, it’s simple. Even if the server farms at Meta got carpet bombed, it would still be crass as all fuck to call yourself a “refugee”. Think about what the fuck you’re saying.

      Yes, I understand you maybe left friends or family behind. They’re still there. You can call them, email them, write to them, maybe even visit them.

      why do you seem to narrow down the word "refugee" to that very special meaning? AFAICT its meaning encompasses anyone who seeks/obtains refuge/shelter/a safe place.

      @lxo It may be the carpet bombing of actual people and the whole thing of helpless refugees that is going on right now in the world while other people find themselves having to change social media apps.

      both amount to people's seeking refuge.

      one can also seek refuge from light rain.

      the word doesn't carry any implication about the seriousness of the situation.

      it applies to all these cases equally.

      what word would you prefer to use for someone who seeks refuge from light rain, or from a hostile social media platform?

      Such recommendation isn't helping people be liberated, neither from terrorists nor from freedom denying non-free closed source software like corporate social media and the survaliance capitalism that drives it.

      @gnu2
      a) it's "surveillance" not "survaliance"
      b) You're really boring and should stop sniffing your own farts
