   For those who've gotten a professional diagnosis, how did you go about getting it? What were the steps you took, and were you ultimately satisfied with the experience? Any advice or input you could give would be grately appreciated, thanks! Oh, and please boost.

     @bnys Same here. I can relate to some autistic things and some ADHD things, but not all of either.

     @Fragglemuppet I had a remote interview for ADHD assessment from my former therapist clinic. I’m suspicious I might be AuDHD as well but I don’t see the need for an assessment quite yet since that seems like a rather lengthy and expensive process. I’m hesitant to claim autism but I sure share a ton of experiences and comorbidities with autistic people! 🤔

     @Pikestreet Thanks! Really I just started to think about it seriously. I haven't done anything yet short of asking a therapist I didn't like anyway who never followed up, and I may not do anything else. Just thinking about the possibilities for now.

     @Fragglemuppet I got a referral through a general practitioner. I specifically chose a young GP, who would be open to the idea, and would take the time to follow through. I had enough mental health coverage on my insurance to cover the whole thing. Sometimes the process showed how differently my brain worked than I thought. Other times the Dr had to point them out because, you don't know what you don't know. I'm going back for more clarification. Good luck!

     This doesn't directly answer your question, but…

     If you think you're autistic (possibly and ADHD, aka AuDHD), you are welcome to chat and seek resources in the #ActuallyAutistic (and @actuallyautistic) community. We consider self-diagnosis entirely valid 'round these parts!

     Personally, I've never been formally diagnosed through a neuropsych eval. I have an unofficial Dx by a psychologist and tons of lived experience.

     @cy I actually asked 2 different therapists for help or at least advice about diagnoses. One I mentioned in another reply that she never followed through with. That was autism. The other was in college for ADHD. She was a little more helpful, but said I didn't have it based on criteria I didn't agree with. So it would seem we've had very different experiences.

     I've been in therapy half my life. Hasn't added up to anything, but they're quite eager to hand out diagnoses to justify their paycheck. I had to convince a therapist not to diagnose me with autism once. You can't really test for ADHD or Autism, so pretty much you just have to tell a counselor that you don't have a little angel sitting on your shoulder, and the little devil's tired of doing double time. Or whatever criteria they use.

     Dunno. It’s the first I've heard of anybody having an issue. My posts are set public, and I just checked the tweesecake.social moderated servers list (from the outside). disabled.social doesn't appear to be on it. Neither is tweesecake on disabled.social's moderated list. And I'm seeing your posts just fine.
