  @cheeaun @eloquence I also never heard of it till now… “absorbed into Perplexity AI” yikes!
  One more reason why people should abandon closed silos and join the Fediverse. Do they never learn?

  @_elena @eloquence I'm kinda on the fence here. I've observed that design communities actually prefer closed silos or smaller niche groups, judging from back-then Dribbble, to Designer News, and now read.cv/post.cv. There's this quote from https://web.archive.org/web/20241207043137/https://solomon.io/designer-news-is-dead/ :
  > While this was a gated community, this place was just awesome. Now… listicles, how-to’s, ugly Dribbble shots, “trends” posts, endless UX hot takes, and run-of-the-mill “show site” submissions are the norm.

  @cheeaun @eloquence I completely understand and I should have had a more gracious, nuanced response to the news.
  It’s just that I have been burned so many times by platforms that suddenly went up in smoke, forcing me to rebuild my social graph from scratch. And I’m a photographer / filmmaker, so I get it. I just wish there was something for us on the open social web, powered by a protocol like ActivityPub. It would be a game changer
