@blaaablaaaa @Hoss I think it was @mangeurdenuage who articulated this best to me. the kind of harm that can come out of something like the tiktok skinner box or the alexa speaker is a very abstract form of harm. understanding the nefarious things that people can do with that requires a ton of mental overhead. the alexa speaker isn't directly stabbing you in the face or anything.

when we try to frame the conversation as "CCP/NSA is collecting your data" the normies don't get it because they are permanently three steps behind. they still can't grasp why it could even be harmful in the first place. most of them still don't even know why simple commercials are bad beyond a surface level understanding that they interrupt an entertainment program.
