Ok. Seeing as Proton haven’t replied to me I thought it best to clarify my position as it’s a been a bit of a rollercoaster few days.
I have a few theories.
Ok. Seeing as Proton haven’t replied to me I thought it best to clarify my position as it’s a been a bit of a rollercoaster few days.
I have a few theories.
Theory one:
Initially I was concerned that this was a CEO positing political nonsense from the organisation account. But that didn’t sit particularly well. In no company should the CEO be able to mainline comms out through social media without several layers of checks.
This means that either he has access to those accounts, or that whoever does have access doesn’t feel comfortable calling the behaviour out. Red flag.🚩
If that’s a control thing, where else do people have more access and control than they should? 🚩
In addition, the content was an alt-right rant full of dog whistles and misinformation regarding a very dangerous pick for the incoming administration - completely at odds with what we thought we knew about the organisation. The additional 88 middle finger would seal the deal.
It’s possible that this is the personal and professional position of the CEO and by extension Proton.
Theory two:
The CEO has been indoctrinated and gone rogue. Happens all the time. Eject them, apologise, prove commitment, move forward.
This only becomes a problem if the board is of like mind or subservient, or doesn’t have the voting power. Red flag.🚩
But we’ve had radio silence from Proton except a post from the corp Reddit account with a statement direct from the CEO doubling down… and another Reddit account made in the CEO’s name with the number 88 encoded in it. 🚩
