   I don't have any direct ill will toward mastodon software itself but it would be funny if the transition to nonprofit control crashed and burned in five years permanently tanking the process. there is no actual strong evidence that BDFL is a bad arrangement, people say that because they don't like reality.

     there has been half a dozen attempts by people in the last several years to wrest control of mastodon and give it to a commie collective. That would have been comedy gold but of course they couldn't even get their shit together to organize an effective takeover

     @sun I think people are just hyping it to contrast it with Meta but it is absurd. Also Mastodon cannot succeed just with good PR, it missed the train at least twice and now bsky is eating what could have been their userbase.
