Looks like Proton is in full damage control mode on Reddit after their CEO showed his ass yesterday. The comments they made on Mastodon and Bluesky have been deleted. I guess a lot of us cancelled our subscriptions.

There was a new statement from Yen put out on Reddit. It could have been better, though it was needed. Still, I'm going to side eye Proton forever because that trust has been broken by Yen putting his entire foot in his mouth.

Even after this, I'm not going to give Proton a dime-- and I was a paying customer for about a year. I'm going to look elsewhere for a new VPN, even if I keep my one email address with them-- the bulk of my email goes through Tuta anyway.

I'm just shaking my head at Yen's statement about JD Vance supporting Lina Khan-- therefore the GOP is good for anti-trust. Did I miss some reality where Khan is not being replaced by Andrew Ferguson? 🤨

I'm doubtful Gail Slater will have anywhere near the ferocity of Lina Khan. Doubly so, since Trump is hellbent on appointing loyalists, and has big tech is scrambling to be all in with him for his second term. I mean, look at Meta's hard turn.

As long as heads of tech companies are willing to praise Trump and/or line his pockets, they'll likely not be investigated. Thus, I think this is the real reason for Yen's unneeded statement yesterday.

At the end of the day, Proton isn't an American company. But the CEO has made his stance clear. Again, that trust has been broken.

I'm just adding to my pile of frustrations with the guy leading Proton. I suppose you could give his choice of username on Reddit the benefit of the doubt by saying it's related to his birth year. I'm giving it the side eye, as he could have gone with literally anything else.

Now I'm personally reconsidering even leaving my specialized email there. Might be time to migrate and delete my account as soon as I can.

So does anyone actually have an explanation as to why the Reddit handle of Proton’s CEO is Andy1011000 that doesn’t end with him trolling us that it’s 88 in binary?

all of this could be explained bad luck of events. but i start to think there is too many "coincidences".

the last one this 88 in binary is just weird and too suspicious. if this turns out to be true, i don't recommend proton services to anyone. certain point, one cannot be totally neutral or impartial.

some time ago purism with librem 5 made extremely bad pr. but i start to think that proton's comments have been worse.

@zetabeta I'm getting that feeling as well. Sure, it could be coincidence, or this CEO is blowing into a massive dog whistle.
