    Yes, I met a DIY FOSS Cyborg who lives in Emacs and Guix full-time. And YOU TOO can live such a life, if you dare!

      I also posted a video of me interviewing Zacchaeus about his DIY FOSS cyborg setup. It's wild to see!

      @cwebber This is what I'm going to show friends and family to explain that putting Emacs on my phone is perfectly normal, relatively speaking.

      @cwebber This looks absolutely sick.
      A few weeks ago I already saw someone doing cool stuff with some AR glasses and now this.

      Damn I want to do something like this so bad.

      It's actually a LibreM 5 running PureOS but with the bare bones OS and Guix Home layered on top for everything else... so not Guix as the whole distro (yet)!

      @cwebber Over at lobsters, @brandon_rhodes shared a thesis from 1996 about wearable displays. The students are using Emacs as well. Emacs has a long tradition of Cyborgs! https://lobste.rs/s/lnxbxa/diy_foss_cyborg#c_qr3sm5

        In 1983, I left Columbus on a bizarre contraption... a recumbent bicycle with computer, solar panels, and communication tools... and pedaled 17,000 miles around the US. Over the next 9 years, this evolved into a rolling extravaganza of mobile networking named BEHEMOTH.

      @cwebber Okay that is very cool. I think the main things that would stop me from trying it out myself are the aesthetic (which seems like it could be tweaked, you got into that a bit) and the keyboard mounting likely making it inconvenient to sit down (this one feels more difficult to address)

      @me
      Iirc when I interviewed @sacha about her experience doing this, she said basically people look at you funny when you're like this whereas an idea is that if you had a screenreader you could use that subtly instead of the displays and pass as a non-cyborg in groups of humans. It's definitely cool.

      @screwtape @sacha As much as I love the simpler analog solutions to stuff, I have to admit, having a persistent org-mode overlay is really appealing.
