@james @dave @johnspurlock or others in the #podcast space: am looking for a resource, toolset or data source for research into top 50 podcast shows weekly in US over last 6 months. Any recommendations?

@james @dave @johnspurlock Thanks so much! Interesting that Apple is just “trending and not consumption” is that documented anywhere? And will dig into the others you referenced!

@tchambers @dave @johnspurlock You will find some people who have taken databases of the Apple and Spotify charts - you could chat with Rephonic or Podgagement as two different people. However, the Apple chart is trending (not based on consumption), while Spotify skews younger and isn't representative of the industry as a whole; so not ideal. It's the best data that there is on a weekly basis, though.

Podscribe have their own data, which is a hybrid of their own data and estimates.

https://podnews.net/press-release/edison-research-us-ranker-q324 is research based (Q-on-Q), and shows that the top 50 really doesn't change that much from quarter to quarter anyway.

This is from 2023 so not sure if still accurate but seems to describe how Apple and Spotify charts methodlogies work: https://www.cohostpodcasting.com/resources/podcast-rankings

@tchambers @dave @johnspurlock It is not accurate as I understand it, in terms of how Apple charts work. Apple’s are trending charts, which reward recent subscriptions. https://podnews.net/article/understanding-podcast-statistics
