   I abandoned Facebook years ago when I realized I didn't want to talk to most of my extended family and real life acquaintances, I didn't want them to know anything about me, and a solid half of them turned out to be bad people anyway.

     @timberwraith Yeah, I realized I was following a bunch of people I only tangentially knew after a point and I had nothing in common with them. Even the ones who weren't terrible merely reminded me on a daily basis what I was missing out on by being a poor trans woman in Texas.

     @gwynnion @timberwraith When I had FB it was mostly good ppl I wanted to see updates from. Then I made the mistake of "engaging" by gently telling a few bigoted acquaintances what I thought of their posts, and FB decided they were my closest friends whose stuff I must always want to see...

     @gwynnion I get it. Besides wanting to do everything under a pseudonym in public spaces, my family of origin offered no draw whatsoever. Neither did people from my hometown. A lot of awful people I had no desire to have contact with. [shrug]

     "And exactly WHY would I want people to be able to find me so easily? I don't *want* people to be able to find me."
