     @EmmaFaber @politicallyincorrectpuppy @annakatarina Most religions developed during the axial age as a means of creating cohesion within communities as well as a means of managing hierarchies. They have similar themes, creation stories etc because they borrowed from each other and because many of the concepts and retellings are intrinsic to humans. Think about the magical numbers 3, 7 and 12 which crop up in multiple stories as well as elements of narrative such as the good are rewarded and the bad are punished.
     Just because something is not literally true, it doesn't mean that it doesn't contain a truth.

     @EmmaFaber @Holohoots @annakatarina I always understood that there were references in Roman history about Joshua Bar Joseph (Jesus) pertaining to his execution, but I may be wrong.
     The stories of Jesus of the New Testament were not written until at least sixty years after his death and each gospel writer had a mindset for telling the stories. While there are some overlapping stories, some are only mentioned by one writer. Even the nativity story varies for allegorical reasons; Mark puts it into historical context, Matthew (a Jew) as a prophesy, and Luke (a Gentile) as universally acceptable. John prefers to talk about Logos and John the Baptist (being born/reborn).
     Jesus as a person could be interpreted as a representation of an idea (Christianity) which starts from Judaism and moves its ideas in a new direction.
