Here comes the criticism of Pixelfed users, I'm sorry but what did you expect, Instagram isn't exactly the bastion of (I dont even want to finish this lmao)
These are just regular people, please don't be so harsh on them because they don't add alt text to their pics, we can help them learn but we shouldn't attack them.

@dansup I like the way that Phanpy puts an image description text box right on the post screen along with the caption text box. It’s a good reminder to add a description - and not having to tap through a menu or to another screen makes it quick and easy to always include alt text :)

@dansup Actually I love the platform .... just like the rest of fediverse, focus to what's truly matters, unlike Instagram. I just complained about the app, official Android client actually, tbh .... it's buggy. But as I understand you maybe busy with LoopsVideo, I understand.

@dansup With pixelfed, mastodon, etc, the average user needs to learn a few different concepts and behaviors to use with greater benefit and control over current technologies experience. All are capable, just as they learned current technologies a few decades or years ago.
I am old toad and put in plenty of time gently helping friends and family accommodate to some new technologies for keeping socially connected and communicating. (Limited use of phone capabilities is draw back)

@dansup I’ll be honest, and I’m sure to get flamed for this, but… I am still relatively new to Mastadon and using alt text. When I recently joined pixel feed I never thought of using alt text seeing as it is primarily a picture or photo based site. I incorrectly assumed people with visual issues would not be on the pixel feed sites. This is a mistake on my part but it is also one I am sure I am not alone in having. I will just have to try to do better in the future.

@dansup People can't expect 1 dev to do work a multibillion corporation does with armada of devs and resources. Sometimes 1 dev is a benefit, but all the work falls on shoulders of one person and 1 person has a finite amount of time to work on something. Just that. If something is not polished yet, it's because of that. Not because that 1 dev doesn't know how to make it better or something.

I set my pixelfed to make alt-text mandatory, so it won't let me post unless I enter something in to that box. Granted text descriptions are not my best forte, however I try and at least add something descriptive to the box.

How can I add alt text to all the photos in my meme collection, ideally when I 1st download an image file? Maybe as a tag so it follows the file. It's silly to have to keep adding new alt text every time I post an image

@dansup I really like how Mastodon puts alt-text right in the spotlight. Before joining Mastodon, I didn't even know what alt-text was.
