@Gigi @dalias @tokyo_0 Yeah, what you're saying feels familiar. I'm on masto to feed a stubborn contrarian streak.

My IRL friends, mostly Black, are deeply uninterested in "the fediverse" cause the things they want out of social media arent here, but they are available elsewhere (without having to run their own server or build their own tools). The conversations and people they want aren't here. There's no compelling case for them to spend time here.

I am the techy one amongst my boys. I built a NAS and run the lil discord server we all use. Using Mastodon is a lot of work to eke out a niche in a place where i still feel very much like an outsider. I've got my lil friend group and i stick to it.
