   Hold onto you hats. This is going to be a great week for the Fediverse.

   For years now to most people, the Fediverse has meant Mastodon. The fact there are thousands of Mastodon servers that all talk to each other is kind of a mind blower, but we've figured it out.

   This week, thanks to Meta, people are discovering Pixelfed, another Fediverse app that likewise is deployed on many different servers that all talk to each other.

   And they all talk to your Mastodon account too!

   BOOM 💥!!!

     So, go get yourself a Pixelfed account. You can get it on the main pixelfed.social (https://pixelfed.social/) or better get it on one of the other Pixelfed servers, like pixey.org (https://pixey.org/) administered by @stux of mstdn.social fame. Or pick from this list:

     https://fedidb.org/software/pixelfed

     Just do it. It's fun. 🙂

     And play around. Post some pictures. See if you can follow your Pixelfed account from your Mastodon account. What else can you do? Explore. Follow people. Enjoy.

     The real beauty of the Fediverse is blossoming 🌸 right now.

     There is an enormous conceptual difference between one main familiar application program and two. And if two, why not three? This week the creator of Pixelfed is rolling out Loops, a TikTok alternative!

     I know! Right?!

     And there are dozens of other current Fediverse applications and projects in the works. Imagine your favorite Ghost newsletter delivered to your Mastodon feed. It's coming.

     It's a great time for public social media.

     @mastodonmigration What's even better, YOU DON'T NEED TO CREATE A PIXELFED ACCOUNT TO INTERACT WITH PIXELFED!

     You can follow anyone on Pixelfed right here from Mastodon; for example, there's nothing stopping you from following e.g. @dansup right from however you access Mastodon.

     That's the beauty of a shared protocol.
