Yea @genmaicha, and micronutrients aside, @amiloradovsky, fructose in sugar is metabolized in a completely different pathway compared to just glucose. Opium used to be legally traded, and its consumption were normalized in the colonies in the 19th centuries. For this reason, China and most of SEA have death sentence for drug possession, guess tis time for the west to also learn the same lesson (but muh democracy!).
