      This is correct typically a rotation is necessary for a single crop farming because by nature deplete the soil of nutrients, the choice is either to apply artificial nutrients such as fertilizers, but if you plant other crops, particularly those that can fix nutrients such as lagoons, and then the soil fertility is restored, and you go back to your cash crop. The other alternative is to put cow poop on the soil.

      @paninid it's usually to let the soil regenerate. Often, you grow a cover crop which is plowed under before you plant another field crop.

      What is the purpose of letting fields lay fallow? I don’t get it. Crop rotation is a thing. Having an asset, choosing not to do anything, and then inviting reporters to talk about the angst is…odd.
