Unlike my SF home / grocery situation, where I can get anything Asian anytime without going to a special store, I had to remind myself while I was at the Korean store in Seaside earlier that I can get things for more than one day because I have a different grocery situation here! Feels weird

The other imported goods are much smaller in scope and variety but functional. They don’t have the 20 types of rice I’m used to but they’ll have like, 6. Same with tofu. I’m glad I don’t have to get supermarket branded tofu and they have Korean tofus here. Also needed my soy sauce, and basic pantry items.
Still figuring out my Monterey kitchen situation. The people I cook with mostly cook food that’s similar to what I cook so maybe I’ll talk to them about splitting the use of pantry basics instead of all of us having like, 5 types of soy sauce. Or maybe I’ll just get the nice soy sauce I only use here

Adrianna Tan (skinnylatte@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 09:15:25 JST Adrianna Tan The online Asian grocery app Weee Does actually deliver here! I’d like to go to a local store if I can, it’s just not easy to get to all of them
The Hispanic markets are fantastic of course

Adrianna Tan (skinnylatte@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 09:20:50 JST Adrianna Tan I generally don’t get most of my stuff at a big box store anyway. Stuff like Safeway.. I don’t really eat a lot of big US brand products. Didn’t grow up on that stuff, have no taste for it. I’ll go to TJ’s once in a while coz they do wind up cheaper for some specialty stuff (especially things that originate from Europe). And for some basic, especially for 1-2 people they are well priced. For fresh stuff I prefer to go to butchers and fishmongers, and I mostly split the rest between Asian and Hispanic and farmers markets.
This area of course has an incredible farmers market (the farmers that come to SF for farmers markets are all from this region).
I’m going to kit up my bike for grocery carrying so I can ride to get the fresh seafood off the boats, too.
