So I got Pleroma working with pgbouncer, so I've got that going for me, which is nice. In case anyone cares, or finds this post in the future, this is what you need in pgbouncer.ini
ignore_startup_parameters = gin_fuzzy_search_limit, jit, plan_cache_mode
Instead of 'imposter syndrome' I get 'I'm a better DBA while drunk than most people are sober' syndrome.

@prettygood Do you actually drink at your computer? Your posts usually look pretty sober.

@deadheat I do, yes. If you ever see me posting a lot, I'm probably hitting the bottle. Its not an every day thing, but its often enough that... well you know.
As far as how my posts look, I have 35 years of practice with typing, its like riding a bike, you don't forget all of that very easily.

@prettygood Well, it's not that a drunk person forgets how to type. So I guess the alcohol doesn't make you less careful about how you communicate.

@deadheat no, if anything it makes me more thoughtful and more considerate. Things move slower. I am more concerned with camaraderie than I am with any personal goals.

@deadheat my personal goals, at this point in my life, are to ride out the wave and hope to secure a comfortable future. I'm 47 years old, I can't have kids, and almost all of my family is dead or in jail. I want to provide a comfortable, quiet, peaceful life for my wife and remaining family and friends, and to put more good into the world than bad in the mean time.
What would happen if I stopped drinking? The world would be a lot quieter. Less inspiration, less social energy, more time spent fretting. More sleepless nights. Less laughter. A dimmer view of the world, far less hope. More cynicism, more repression, less acceptance of life as it is.

@deadheat I got married 10 years before I discovered anime. The difference is it didn't completely mind-break me like it did other people. That isn't to say it didn't fuck me up, just less than other people.

@deadheat of course anime isn't the problem. We would be in a really sorry state collectively it were.
The problem is that we live in a state where solipsism is preferable to facing reality. When a memory feels as real as life, it's as valid as life, even if that memory belongs to someone else.
Thinking about a moment brings back the smell of cut grass, the warmth of another's hand on yours, the taste of another's tongue in your mouth. Wouldn't you rather lose yourself in such a memory then spend the night alone, staring at walls of metal and plastic?

@prettygood People need to be neuroplasticitypilled from a young age. Don't let anything twist your brain functions, reinforce your disgust for what is disgusting, harmful, dangerous and unhealthy, and cultivate in your life what is healthy, anime is not the problem.

You are still alone there, so it's better to suffer in full awareness of reality until your pain makes you so uncomfortable that you move, you fight. People should be scared of the idea of losing themselves in fantasy, it's a risk to their survival.

@deadheat you know this, and I know this, but you can't deny that the temptation doesn't exist. Ignorance is bliss right?
