I just asked this to someone in a reply, but I wanna know more broadly:
Is a built in headphone jack something you want in a phone, and if so, why?
For me, I switched to off-board DACs long before headphone jacks went out of style, because the onboard DACs built into phones are usually pretty bad (with some exceptions ofc) , and if I didn't care about audio quality too much (for podcasts usually) I'd use bluetooth (which these days is exceptionally high quality anyway)
So yeah, if you like or miss your headphone jack, I'm curious as to why that is, no judgement of course :blobCatFriendly:

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Friday, 10-Jan-2025 04:07:43 JST iced depresso @HaruEb its a bit better on android but bluetooth is still generally stupid, esp. with a nontrivial number of devices basically don't have a reset pairing function and expect you to get permission of the host device to use your headphones again. especially multi-point foons (the "i can just use it on my macbook and iphone!" thing)
i had some transmitters that were like just take it to an empty room with no signals (no GUI to pair them, not even a simple push button interface to do it)
i let someone pair to my emeet luna for a conference call. after the call i guess they didn't un-pair it, because another call another day it decided to take the device over and send their call to my desk while i was using it to listen to books. (thankfully the luna DOES have a 'hold bluetooth button to make them fuck off', but many little earbud things don't) -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Friday, 10-Jan-2025 04:11:17 JST iced depresso @HaruEb i think some number of people are also generally worried about wearing batteries on their ears as that's a fire risk. there's also known and suspected risks and sensitivities to radio signals. (ex. the EM from putting your phone on your brain is known to raise the brain's temperature by up to a degree.)
big can foons have a little latitude where to put the radio equipment but ultimately its right up on your head. TWS earbuds have radios on BOTH sides of your head, as they have to communicate to one another and to the computer.
wired cans the EM remains with the device which can be placed away from the brain. (very very sensitivep eople can get air tubes where even the drivers are moved to chest level, although i only have these out of curiosity about air tubes.) -

i would say i miss my macbook, but apple didn't even put A2DP in those so it was super easy and reliable to... pair low quality mono sound. -

open bluetooth menu
click on headphones
all audio works fine (except for Ardour and honestly that's fine lol)
