Fairphone suddenly not so unique anymore
@steph@fedi.steph.tools No headphone jack, no buy.
Still no replacement for my Fairphone 3.
@HaruEb@mk.absturztau.be @steph@fedi.steph.tools Well the fact that I need to actually carry the damn adapter around when it could just be built inside the phone?
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @steph@fedi.steph.tools Just out of curiosity, what advantages do you find a built in headphone jack offers beyond being able to use the USB-C port with headphones plugged in.
In my case, even if my phone had a headphone jack I wouldn't use it, because the DACs in even really cheap USB to 3.5mm UAJ adapters are way better than the WCD-9326 you've got in your Fairphone 3
@HaruEb@mk.absturztau.be @steph@fedi.steph.tools Look I'm a weird person. I don't actually care about how fast the CPU is or what insane resolution the screen uses, it just has to be usable for basic web browsing, chats and email.
So going from a phone with a headphone to a phone without a headphone jack would feel like a downgrade, because everything that considered an upgrade by most people are things that I do not care about.
If I would design the perfect phone for me it would probably have all many different kinds of different IO on all sides including VGA or something stupid that only I would want a phone to have.
@HaruEb@mk.absturztau.be @steph@fedi.steph.tools Also for the love of god someone please just make a phone with a physical keyboard again
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @steph@fedi.steph.tools nah that's valid, it really is a shame that there isn't variety in device configurations to suit different needs and use cases, rather than just a small collection of "flagship" phones that are all essentially identical and everyone else is imitating.
@HaruEb@mk.absturztau.be @steph@fedi.steph.tools Or a phone that's smaller than 5 inches.
@charliebrownau@poa.st @steph@fedi.steph.tools @HaruEb@mk.absturztau.be But that's the thing. I don't want a "dumb phone". I basically want a N900 with modern hardware.
