   The Verge has a breakdown of the policy changes at Facebook, Instagram and Threads yesterday.

   It is, in my opinion, deeply uncomfortable.

     @GossiTheDog Zuckerberg is allowing his platform to be used as a platform for the furthering a Nazi agenda of disparagement, dehumanization, objectification and other form of hatred. I don't use the term Nazi lightly, but this was very much the sort of systematic "othering" or people they did which lead to the holocaust.

     @GossiTheDog Zuckerberg is a billionaire who even if he lost 99% of his wealth would still be so stinking rich as to never suffer anything recognizable as a personal hardship. These guys can afford to draw a line in the sand more than anyone else on earth, and they chose to ally themselves with barbarians. History should not remember him kindly.

     I intend to fully defederate Threads.net from Cyberplace.social in two weeks, so 23rd January 2024, unless they clarify their moderation policies.

     People are welcome to migrate their account in advance to avoid losing their followers from Threads.

     The reason being I cannot accept terms of service enforcement which specifically targets minority groups.

     Meta's new documentation has overlaps with Kiwi Farms. It is not okay.

     A few months ago, the debate was between "block Threads immediately because FB is evil and can't be trusted" versus "maybe they won't be evil this time, so let's wait and see." I submit that these policy changes are the beginning of the "and see" phase.

     @GossiTheDog Thank you for taking the moral ground, Kevin. I’ve been busily telling my WhatsApp contacts I’m leaving, and deleting my Threads account. Will also delete Instagram, soon. It makes me feel a tiny bit better

     @GossiTheDog Good riddance! Defederation is totally justified 👍, we don't need to open the floodgates for bigotry.

     It's not even that they are permissive about speech. It's that they EXPLICITLY single out marginalized groups as a special case where discrimination is allowed.

     This policy is ITSELF discrimination because it applies a double standard.👎

     But it's not like the #Meta empire has ever been ethical before, so this is perfectly on-brand for them. 🤡
