   Saw a post on bsky that bsky harbors transphobes, twitter is a nazi bar and meta is doing carve outs specifically so it's OK to harass queer people and lamenting "where are we supposed to go"

   It's fedi. You're supposed to go to fedi. It's right here. I know it's full of smelly nerds but you can either have a slick corporate interface with bigots or the Linux of social media without. Maybe it's time to put up with the smelly nerds and the jank

     Saying bsky "harbours transphobes" is literally the most hilarious complaint I've heard in a looooong time. :blobcat-joy:
     
     Let me guess: This is because the platform refused to ban Jesse Singal.
     
     This is like complaining that a certain place "harbours satanists" because they refuse to ban Richard Dawkins.
     
     Of course, nothing prevents anyone from joining fedi because there's no central authority that can ban you. In fact, there can be literal neo-nazis and pedophiles on fedi and nobody can actually ban them. All you can do is tell your instance admin to ban instances that host those accounts, which is a slippery slope and is massively hurting fedi, leading partly to centralisation and partly a splitting of the network into isolated fragments... #fediblock
     
     Bsky has block lists, which are similar in splitting the network into isolated echo chambers, so it's not much different in that regard. Same with Twitter for that matter.
     
     The only difference of fedi is that it's decentralised. The cultural problems are all the same no matter where you go because the current Zeitgeist is: incessant culture war BS and massive echo chambers.

     @eniko He is literally a journalist who's been writing perfectly balanced and well-researched articles on the topic. For that, he's receiving death threats. Trans activists are living in a fantasy world where everyone who doesn't 100% conform to their political philosophy is evil.

     @taylan not my words ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but it is very concerning that bsky leadership bent over backwards to not do anything about a prominent transphobe joining their platform with the explicitly mentioned intent of shit stirring

     @eniko they are afraid of contagion. We clearly have smelly nerd cooties and anyone who gets involved with us becomes one, just see what we've done with @_elena who went from being a photographer and documentarist to self hosting a Fedi server. Obviously we can't be trusted.
