@LillyHerself@openculture Sorry you, because you can't make a difference. You don't have to share the questionable belief of these people, but you should be impressed by heart felt devotion. What would Mr. J.S. Bach's music be without his deep faith, which I do not share too but which inspired him so much. This song is really great. What if you would not understand the words and just listen to the music which always has a message? It is hard but please try.
@vegos_f06 Leonard Cohen flirted with just about every religion and every woman and every lifestyle, without committing to any of them. The only thing he ever really committed to was music, which is what this song is about. I suspect it was the same for Bach; the church was the only employer for musicians at that time.
@LillyHerself@openculture I flirted with all kind of religions too, but I decided not to join one, I was never looking for salvation. Same with women, for a very long time. Bach did way more than just a job. He even changed bible verses if he could say it better or it would fit better to his music. Beside the church, there were the royal courts for musical careers.
