    @JHB17 afaik 100 miles is just about the bottom end of range for a current *city car*; in the past the range was a bit less, but I'd expect that with that amount of driving you would have used a bigger car (with a higher range), and for a long time those have been able to do both your commute and your trips to the in-laws with just overnight charging at home.

    The trip to your parents I believe it's starting these days to get feasible (one way only) with overnight charging only on quite expensive cars, but other than those I'd guess you'd have to plan either one single stop for lunch-and-recharging the car, or multiple shorter stops, but sounds perfectly feasible either way.

      @david

      I love the concept of electric vehicles.

      But. My in-laws lived 76 miles away. My parents lived 430 miles away. I was commuting more than 90 miles, round-trip, for most of my career.

      Charging an EV wasn't practical. Now, retired, it looks a bit better.

      Despite parking next to another Mini, 20kW is just too slow. We’ve moved, ironically, to a Toyota dealership and are charging there.

      Oh no! A BMW has turned up to charge and now our charge speed has halved.

      We’ve set off for the trek home, well sorta. Stopped to charge nearby, but may bail on this one soon as it’s quite slow.
