I’ve now seen a ‘liberal’ person advocating that Americans who feel they lost out on jobs to H1Bs, should call ICE.
I guess gross treatment of immigrants is fine as long as you do it!

Also so many ‘native Californians’, none of whom are actually native, saying that they should be treated better than these horrible foreign people
I’ve also now seen a bunch of concern-commenting that America should restrict H1B so that developing nations can keep their best talents and we don’t brain drain them
At least actual racists are far more honest about their thoughts and intentions
@ideogram given that the H1B program is fully subscribed by a factor of 4 or 5 to 1, many, and for many good reasons despite what people think.
@skinnylatte
I'm wondering how many 'best talents' really want to go to the US at this point in time?
@foolishowl all day here people have been telling me I’m mistaking what liberals are really about
@skinnylatte A lot of liberals have been ratcheting hard to the right since the election. It's pretty horrid to see.
@raphaelmorgan @ideogram studies show that immigrants to the U.S. do on average better than immigrants to other developed countries on every index. people like me actively make this choice, even from a ‘rich’ country, and continue to do so. America is the worse is also a form of American exceptionalism.
@ideogram @skinnylatte what you have to remember is that every problem in the US is also made into everyone else's problem. People still immigrate to this horrible country because, largely due to this horrible country, conditions in their home country are even worse. Or, in some cases, they're not much worse but everyone lies to them about how good it is here. No one is immune to propaganda :/
@raphaelmorgan @ideogram I think lots of immigrants are fully aware of the challenges that this country presents. No one expects a paradise. Some, however, expect more social freedom than elsewhere, and more economic opportunity than ‘home’. I always say I choose America over other imperialist shitholes because it lets me call it mine.
Other settler colonies do not afford their immigrants this luxury, most of the time.
@skinnylatte @ideogram I can't tell if this is a disagreement or an addition but for the record, I'm not trying to say America is the worst. More that, despite how horrible it is here, it's kinda horrible everywhere. Often as a result of US imperialism, or European imperialism.
I maintain that a lot of immigrants were lied to about the American Dream. How it goes is going to heavily depend on race, education, and connections, but is it really that great for the average person?
