@vfrmedia @Urban_Hermit @aei I always avoided the physical address part (and name, etc.) by permanently keeping the bar code from the "guest" or "temporary" card they gave along with the sign-up form.

@Urban_Hermit @aei we have loyalty cards here but you just apply for them online and its a physical card you can scan with your groceries (the grocery store asks for your physical address to send the card which is fair enough, but not your phone number)

@vfrmedia @aei 7-11 in the US is doing it. When I say "No" they press a button and I still get the "discounted" regular price instead of the higher price. On a $7 purchase the difference is usually $1 or more. Occasionally I have found a 7-11 that still charges me the higher price for not putting in my phone number and being part of their "loyalty program" and I NEVER go back there.
These fucking loyalty card/loyalty programs caught on in the US in the late 90s. WinCo has no such thing!

@aei what country is this in? I've never been asked for a mobile phone number in a physical shop here in UK (its possible that not only does GDPR discourage it, its pointless anyway)
