      @eniko Absolutely. This is a pretty normal thing to do.

      @eniko Re: rpi and sd corruption, in theory this goes away if you use a distro that can run from a readonly mount, and put the data on a separate USB flash drive. Or you can even just boot your normal pi os from sd but with the rootfs on usb.

      can i just say how absolutely baffling it is how okay people are with their data storage just randomly corrupting when using raspberry pis, a thing that nobody in the history of ever would be okay with for any other electronic device that they own? i think about this a lot

      EDIT: lotta people commenting on this with "just get an industrial strength sd card" in the tone of "skill issue" and, like, could you not? also kudos for leaving the "have you considered never having a power outage" part unsaid

      @eniko the hardware guy in me, the guy who's constantly replacing connectors that have burned to a crisp because they are TOO SMALL and ELECTRONS ARE REAL AND HAVE PHYSICAL MASS looks at the High Endurance Industrial Strength label on a microsd card that's the same physical size as a not-industrial-strength one and goes

      🦝 hmmmmmmmmmm

      @eniko How in this age we have come to accept the most crass degradation of basic features for... cheapness? wrings my heart.

      The more I'm forced to learn about hardware, the more I want to get cloud and IaaS certified, in devops, in data engineering...

      @adriano@lile.cl @eniko@peoplemaking.games

      The alternative is you get really really good at precision soldering and teardowns on, like, $700 laptops

      And if you get good, it's never gonna pay off. Because nobody is dumb enough to pay the $100/hr shop rate to repair a laptop that was worth $700 years ago
