     Basically a trade guild of rich public-works construction contractors from the 18th century, maybe earlier.
     
     They were big into secularism and post-monarchism. Even a bit of multi-culturalism, within their social strata of course.

     They were a no-girls club (as could be expected for their trade and craft). More importantly, they were kinda spergy about mystical magical sacred numbers, ratios, geometries, musical instruments. They had their whole "we wuz Hebroos" and "we built da Temple n sheeit" sort of community lore.

     The Bavarian Illuminati had a similar vibe, but officially the Illuminati never branched out into other areas and basically folded after the founded dude died. So we're told.
     
     The Freemasons, on the other hand, were pretty much everywhere in Colonial America and Revolutionary France. No denying that.

     Not so sure about that. The Freemasons were big and important in the Anglosphere during the time when we were officially anti-Catholic.
     
     The Jesuits did some kinda globalist shit in China and other places, supposedly on behalf of the Catholic Church, doing their own thing. They weren't pro-Protestant or pro-Revolution in America or France.

     The Freemasons were a community that was open to Deists, Protestants, and Jews. Very openminded in that regard.
