@nyx on a barely-related note here but i think that one thing caves of qud did REALLY well as a game full of sentient non-human characters was going beyond the limit of bipedal animal people and having most creatures in the game being fungi and plants and similar things like that. the main quest literally has you help a group of bears living underground get rid of a plant that took hold of an ancient tomb while enlisting the help of a fungi scientist. also the faction system makes you able to haggle and converse with slugs and trees and ancient stone mechanisms beyond time :xf_nyxcreatura:
