More #DynDNSHistory in a #RoomWhereItHappened: this was at my apartment in Worcester, MA, as we were prepping for Dyn's really big move from that Ithaca colo into a real live datacenter with real racks and everything - Exodus BOS03 in Waltham, MA.

The rack-mount server here was destined to be the firewall machine for the rack we were moving into. The tower labeled hematite was an OG partner to amethyst (seen in that older colo photo).

This firewall, memorably, was involved (after it was serving live traffic) in a fat-finger incident in which I felt like I was setting a land speed record driving from Worcester to Waltham, because I managed to drop all traffic, with no out of band management access at that time. That was a stressful drive.

While prepping this post I went through a bunch of old stuff from our web site thanks to @internetarchive and I have a bunch of ideas for more stories to tell!

That router, by the way, was, I believe, the classic WRT-54G. Anyone still have one in service?

A gem from the archive: we didn't have a PO Box or anything yet so I was getting donations mailed directly to that apartment and the address is all over the web archive.

I was just reminiscing with my dad about the random weird mail I got with donations to our house in NY (where that teenage Tim photo came from). We got foreign currency, checks, money orders, random hardware, you name it. Ah, those were fun times.

@mike at that point, probably not, I think it was running stock Linksys firmware.
