    To those who have suggested that shutting down the govt will sure show them! I disagree, it's not a good idea and people will suffer.

    Judd Legum agrees:

    Musk, the wealthiest man in the world, says don't worry about the impact of an extended government shutdown on members of the military, seniors who rely on social security, and other government workers.

    They'll be "fine" he says

      @Danetteb @GottaLaff the idea that all will be paid in arrears always ignores the fact that people needing food and rent assistance don't have the ability to float cash until the services return.

      Until the landlords can wait to file claims against the shutdown, and people can just take food and let the stores cover the float, then shutdowns are always terrible. Nobody is gonna be shown anything. It's so frustrating

      @GottaLaff I’m just checking in today and trying to catch up a bit on some from yesterday… shutting down the government means people on SNAP don’t get food, and housing assistance. People in the military don’t get paid. That’s horrible. No one should buy into that toxic idea. Thanks for reminding everyone of that, Laffy!

      @GottaLaff

      Musk, purportedly a "business genius", yet incapable of seeing the price paid for a government shutdown.

      $11 billion in economic losses is "nothing" to Musk.

      Economic costs pale compared to the global reputational damage.

      In a fit of pique a billionaire triggers recessions profitable only to his investors.
