     Build said iron lung support systems into military vehicles. Whether those are tankettes or W40k style dreadnaught walkers is a matter of choice and/or level of technological investment. Ditto for tongue & eyeball tracking based controls versus nerve implants.
     Voila, instant totally loyal heavy military force, where at the merest hint of disloyalty the High Command can turn off life support.

     @cstross : you got it wrong at "daily subscription to go ad-free".

     It should be "daily subscription to get less ads" (the less is important).

     One question I have: how would someone in a iron lung make money to pay for it?

     I agree, that’s their part of the business to solve, not yours.

     @ploum The person in the iron lung is a hostage, if their friends and family won't pay the rent they can suffocate. (That's how capitalism works: by holding lives hostage.)
