   Is a dog in a manger type of tactic

   It might make sense in the short term, in some very specific situation, where your own inability to yield to the enemy's demand is an advantege (you could argue Firefox shouldn't support EME for that reason).

   But the long-term goal should be for you to be able to flash your own firmware.

     @wolf480pl Pretty much why for me fwupd/LVFS is one of the best things which happened, even though I don't have in on my main installs.
     
     Because it means that worst case I boot up in like Debian or whatever instead of trying to find something like Windows PE.

     @wolf480pl Specially as it also means there's a verified working method to flash, whatever the actual code ends up flashed, in a libre way.
     Imagine if people could flash stuff like coreboot with much less risks of bricking their devices.
