God I hate how much AI was pushed as a selling point for like computers and phones and shit, like are we really so sad and tired as a culture that that's the best you can do

@histoire but why are *investors* so jazzed about it, like it's kinda cool and pretty useful but it was so overhyped. One would think literally everyone would realize this.

@Merc @histoire Because innovations are sort of rare these days. Think about the last time you paradigm changing device or concept in your lifetime. Probably AI. Before that, the modern smartphone? People want in on the game changers because that's where money is. AI isn't there yet, but it won't get there without hypemoney (or at least it will take longer). More advancement will happen from people with underpowered computers finding shortcuts to accomplish similar things as complex processor heavy LLMs, and those advancements will be rewritten and adapted to mega computers when possible. In a way, this is probably a big stepping stone even if it looks like nothing right now. General FOMO too.

I think prolly the coolest thing is that nuclear energy and a few other things are finally getting big investments. I saw my energy bill actually FALL this year. But AI stuff is pretty neat to me at least, even if there's a slight bubble. Def cool tech.
