The voicechat solution on my workstation is currently a Shure SM-58 hooked up to a USB XLR lead, which definitely feels like the kind of the hardware choice that you could have instead of personality traits.
(In fact I just ended up without enough cams and mics for all my the computers so started pulling out stage gear.)

@HauntedOwlbear I've been messing with using a lavalier mic and one single earbud in. Having over the ear headphones either makes my voice sound funny (even with passthrough) or presses on my glasses in a way that gets painful quite quickly.
Just to be difficult I attached the mic to my clothes instead of holding in front of me like a lot of video makers do for some weird reason.

@tautology I am seriously about to buy a boom arm for my excessively heavy condenser mic.
(For actual professional voice recording reasons, in my vague defence.)
