      @kaia yeah I don't really blame them because I'm a moocher who doesn't log in and uses an adblocker. I don't know if I'll pay for premium though. It's probably worth it but I hate Google now and don't want to give them money.

      Then, I found brave and Firefox and shit

      @Ree @sun No, I've only been noting to install GNU.

      Gentoo is a proprietary distro by default, although it is possible to use it in freedom by setting ACCEPT_LICENSE="-* @FREE -Artistic" and installing GNU Linux-libre instead of any of the proprietary Linux ebuilds (which have the wrong LICENSE, same as some other ebuilds).

      Freedom isn't gratis, but often the choice is to pay a little amount to get freedom, or pay a large amount to lose your freedom and people say that I'm insane for recommending the former and noting to not do the latter?

      Ultimately I use another single user operating system.

      But Ring 0 everything is really tempting. I wonder if I have anything that can run the ZealOS fork on bare metal…

      @sun @Suiseiseki @Nudhul On a phone by the stove unfortunately. But when I get to sit down and work it will be Haiku.

      It’s an old Thinkpad I with 1TB SSD. Had to swap the networking adapter to get wireless up. CPU is some random ass AMD with integrated Radeon, so when they sort out their 3D acceleration it should work. If not oh well, don’t need it.

      @sun @Suiseiseki @Nudhul I’m running the pure x64 kernel because it’s the only one with Wine support at the moment.

      I used the hybrid kernel a few years ago, but compatibility with GoBe Productive and a few random ass emulators that are done better in RetroArch was not a compelling reason to give up Wine and other things that don’t work on the hybrid kernel.

      @sun @Suiseiseki @Nudhul It’s not just that. The code optimization from it is much worse. The parts of the OS that need to be compiled with that old 2.79? release lead to a much slower overall system.
