    No manufacturing didn't return to the US last time, that's why we are in the situation we are in. Any other questions?

      @sulaco @disclosetv @Goalkeeper @BigDuck @special-boy and you've infected your mind with unwarranted optimism that orange retard can accomplish anything of value, even if he wasn't cockblocked at every turn by an army of judges and bureaucrats.
      i'm not saying total economic collapse, i'm saying it'll only serve to cause price hikes for consumers and lower the buying power of a dollar while doing very little to nearly nothing to actually cause manufacturing to return to the US.

      @sulaco @disclosetv @Goalkeeper @BigDuck @special-boy that was pretty small scale so the impacts were limited
      again, what the dorks at the stock market have to say is irrelevant, what matters is the prices normal people have to pay to buy the shit they need to live.

      @sulaco @disclosetv @Goalkeeper @BigDuck @special-boy your solutions fail to consider the scope of the problems making american manufacturing non-viable, offer none of the long-term stability that investment in manufacturing requires, and will just end up screwing over regular people with higher prices on goods.

      fat orange retard raving about tariffs doesn't make the city planning board expedite the permitting process on a new plant, nor waive the ever-lengthening list of bullshit code requirements. it doesn't make the state's DNR suddenly stop requiring a multi-million dollar environmental impact study before the project can even begin. it doesn't make the army of sniveling lawyers quit filing law suits on behalf of environmental NGOs, bratty natives, "we need mo money for dem programs", and the Boomer Oaks HOA who's mad about truck traffic on the highway, nor judges from issuing injunctions to halt construction for years until all the cases are resolved. it won't stop the army of HR women from rejecting every single person who applies for a job at the plant for not listing 10 years experience in manufacturing and a college degree on their resume. and it'll raise the price of all sorts of supplies and raw materials they'll need in construction and operation.

      if you had any idea how long it takes to renovate office space in an existing commercial building for a new tenant who wants slightly different shaped office space, you wouldn't be so optimistic on the ability to build out manufacturing capacity. you will sit around for a month leasing office space you can't use because the city building department wants to go back and forth with the engineering firm over the width of existing stairwells that aren't being modified in any way, and you will be happy.

      @sulaco @disclosetv @Goalkeeper @BigDuck @special-boy there will never be either way.
      even with tariffs, no one with more brain cells than an orange cat will invest in american manufacturing, because the absolute best case scenario is 4 years of trump and maybe the next guy will have some similar policy positions.
      this would be a super expensive investment that'll take ~years~ of planning, engineering, dealing with government bureaucracy, and construction before even beginning to produce results.
      realistically, in 4 or 8 years, democrats will be back in power. i don't wanna be the guy who has to explain to the investors that the $20 billion plant we started building in 2026 and is projected to be completed some time in 2029 will now be delayed by 2 years and cost $8 billion more to install newly mandated emissions equipment, and can now only ever run at a loss.

      My point is that justifying the price hike because of muh patriotism isn't going to be enough to sway your average normalfag. They literally do not care.

      Oh wait I know what you are asking now. I do like American goods sometimes. Sometimes the quality is dogshit with an elevated price tag. Example: I like Japanese Chef's knives. American Chef's Knives suck by comparison.

      I think they understand from a high level as evidenced by Trump's reelection. They know the economy was better in his first term and the public wants him to do that again. They may not understand tarrifs but they understand the orange man is doing them and it makes the economy stronger

      Part of the problem I encounter is just that the American products are just fucking stagnant. Some company makes something that is a 100% improvement on a good or service and American made goods don’t pay attention so the product is ultimately outdated and inferior.

      The tariffs likely will get stopped in court. The average American consumes too much Chinese and Taiwanese products that it would cripple the economy There are zero alternatives. If he gave as much of a shit about American made he would make it easier for American business to thrive and compete Sometimes the quality of American goods is even more dogshit.

      Wouldn't import tariffs help American businesses thrive because now they can be competitive price wise with slave countries?
