Lizzie (lizzie@brain.worm.pink)'s status on Wednesday, 04-Dec-2024 13:32:02 JST Lizzie @hijabicatgirl i think unity is something Islam is uniquely good at. of course there are different cultures’ variations on it, but muslims pray together at the same times (relative to sun) looking to the same place. hajj is an immensely unifying practice. muslims from every corner have to bump into each other.
modern protestant hyperfragmentation is a bit of an anomaly historically for several reasons, but even then islam’s unity is kind of just not how we operate. christianity is full of all sorts of rites and uses and historical languages and new traditions being made and shared. it is about what is reverent and loving in a particular cultural context.
i will say, it is my belief that where there is a calling out to the divine and to love, there too will heaven find itself.
i have very strong opinions on theology. it is deeply important to me. it is the key in which my heart sings, but it is not correctness of thought that saves. it is taking God’s hand and the hunger that leads us in it.

That's an understandable position.
(I'm not allowed to condone it even if I think it's fine, even if I think there's no harm... because for us, the issue is very black and white. And I lack the authority to contradict God.)
But, I also think God is a great deal more kind and forgiving than most people think. And I think that theological differences aren't going to keep Christian people out of Muslim heaven. The Qur'an actually says this in 5:48. So, y'all do y'all, and let's be neighbors in Paradise. -

Lizzie (lizzie@brain.worm.pink)'s status on Wednesday, 04-Dec-2024 13:32:05 JST Lizzie @hijabicatgirl honestly i think the vibe is totally different in a liturgical denomination. advent is a mini lent of sorts (unless youre Orthodox in which case it is the same length as lent). it is a pentinental season awaiting the second coming that culminates in a celebration of God bridging the gap between the uncreated and the fallen created.
God loves all cultures. What tools we use to celebrate on that day are acceptable unless they are used irreverently or teach bad theology. We are not a people of law of letter. our law is love itself.
that being said i am also planning on avoiding christmas stuff until it is actually Christmas. committing to the advent thing
