    Hunter Biden: Thanks for the pardon, dad! Can we also pardon some of the many innocent people you unfairly locked up?

    Joe Biden: What? No. There's over 2 million of them! Many of them Black!

    Hunter: Please! Maybe just the kids?

    Joe: No! We're done here. They belong to Trump now. Don't die with them.

      No, I don't want Hunter Biden to be in jail. My life is not improved either way if he's pardoned or not pardoned. Stop centering him.

      I'm centering the 2 million+ people unfairly in prison and jail under racistly applied and excessively harsh drug and weapons sentencing laws put in place by Biden.

      There are 8.2 billion people on planet earth. Some other countries are supposedly draconian, and police states.

      So tell me why 1 in every 5 prisoners on planet earth, is locked up in the US?

      And why most US prisoners are locked up pre-trial?

      Mainly for low level drug charges, pushed for by Biden?

      You think I care about Hunter Biden?

      No.

      Hunter will be fine either way.

      I don't have time to worry about Hunter Biden. Everyone else is worrying about and concerned for Hunter Biden. He's already covered in love. That's a good thing.👍🏿

      I'm worried about the 50 million y'all don't worry about.

      @mekkaokereke tomorrow we get to find out if he’s got an advent calendar of pardons to pop open for the rest of the month or whether he’s gonna stop at a milquetoast one.

      Please read the whole thread.

      It covers which senator in particular designed those sentencing guidelines under Reagan.

      Hint: he's from Delaware.

      @mekkaokereke Those laws were not put in place “by Biden” and by Biden alone. The push for horrific drug laws started in the 70’s and were on steroids by Reagan. I can remember watching Phil Donahue say, “that’s what you want, more prisons?” in the early 80’s. By the late 80’s crack and powdered cocaine had different sentencing guidelines, targeting the black population.

      Biden should go out pardoning those 2.8 million.

      @mekkaokereke It's a very simple question to answer: Capitalism. As long as we have for-profit prisons, we will have incarceration for profit.

      No.

      That is a very unhelpful simplification of the very specific point that my thread makes. And it's not true. You don't need to end capitalism to end mass incarceration.

      I understand that you want to talk about capitalism in general. I'm talking about Biden in particular. The specific racist laws he passed, and their impacts.

      @rainynight65

      Huge role.

      In some states, private prisons have a "required occupancy quota." If the prison is below that occupancy, then the state has to pay the prison corporation a penalty per empty cot.😮

      And these corporations lobby against sentencing reform and decriminalization.

      https://eji.org/news/private-prison-quotas-drive-mass-incarceration/

      They lobby against it, in part because the most profitable prisoner, is not a career criminal. It's a hard working, honest, non-criminal Black person with a family that loves them.

      @martlund

      Most of the people in US prison today haven't committed any crimes.

      I don't think folks understand or believe me when I say that most people in US prisons and jails today are innocent.

      @mekkaokereke And soon MILLIONS will be added to private prisons, punishing families who haven't done any crimes, unlike the jerk who will put them there
