     @inganomads Amazing! Imagine the for-profit competitors doing this after having to hire 100 moderators for a single registration wave. ;)

     You might want to clarify directly in the post who's "we", because it's not immediately clear.

     Also is the Mastodon gGmbH involved or is this just an independent initiative from Mastodon Inc. in the USA? The sentence "keep Mastodon a [thing...] centrally operated out of the U.S., backed by venture capital" could be made easier to read.

     It's true that "new role at Mastodon" is misleading - distinguishing Mastodon-the-network vs Mastodon gGmbH (DE) vs Mastodon Inc (US) is crucial for healthy decentralisation.

     The givebutter page [1] really *does* say:

     "... centrally operated out of the U.S., backed by venture capital"

     Do people making donations earn shares in the #VentureCapital? Or are these just donations to empower billionaire investors to make them feel safe?
