    Anyone have any experience dumping Audible? I've already gotten rid of my amazon prime, and I'm working at getting my job to do the same (I have some supportive co-workers so I think it will work, this is the best way to do the same at you job. Find your allies then work together but not in an obvious way to get your company to stop ordering there.)

    Anyway I thought getting rid of audible today would be a nice way to feel like I'm a part of the big Amazon Black Friday strike. 1/

      This is going to be fun.

      To me, having an audible account was total luxury, a "I can afford this now!" thing... but thinking about it, it was not really doing much more than my old ways.

      It's not like I read books right when they come out. And even then There Are Ways.

      What is missing is a way to support the people who read the books, the voice actors and authors more.

      When I was poor about 5 years ago I couldn't afford audible. So I used the library. I'd buy paper copies of books with living authors, or support those authors directly if they were online enough to have ways to send them money.

      As much as I hoover up books and audiobooks I know how to live without this app. I don't need to save the books I've already bought in it, I can find copies on pirate sites easily.

      And I can check many books out from the library right on my phone! Audio books too!

      @WeirdWriter @futurebird

      Yep, authors get paid when libraries stock our books. I'm such a huge fan of libraries, I have a page on my website to help them navigate how to check out ebooks, audiobooks, and paperbacks: https://susankayequinn.com/1-2-3-how-to-get-sues-ebooks-audiobooks-from-your-library

        How To Get Sue’s Ebooks & Audiobooks From Your Library
        ALL MY BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE TO LIBRARIES IN ALL FORMATS… but there are over 17,000 public libraries in the US and they each choose individually which books they want to carry in their catalog.…

      @futurebird Authors and narrators make royalties off of library purchases so if you see that your local library doesn’t have a book in your audible library, ask your local library to purchase the audiobook. Narrators and authors make money from library purchases

      @futurebird @pluralistic sells his through https://libro.fm.

      They don’t have the selection of Audible, but the artists and authors get a fair(er) share of the books you buy.

      And they sell some without DRM encumbrances.
