   @slothrop engineering costs are often "hidden". Especially, when the infrastructure in AWS is managed in a different teams than yours, so you are not paying the salary out of your own budget. Its politically beneficial for your team to keep the AWS bill as low as possible. Does it make sense for the company? No. But no one will ask that.

   I wish I would not be speaking from experience here.
