    🚨 Delete Your 🧬 Data from @23andMe NOW! 🚨

    Share, warn, educate!

The company is about to go under, all assets will be sold off. Whoever buys it will have your DNA and PII, and no responsibility towards you.

They can publish it, sell it, abuse it. Because it's their ownership

@beyondmachines1 @rubinjoni Is there any way to verify that they will delete the data? Instead of setting deleted=true on your profile?

@aral @beyondmachines1 I guess no way. EU citizens might have some mechanism through GDPR (God's Data Protection Regulation, lol). I wouldn't be surprised if the whole dataset was already leaked/given to US intelligence agencies. As for the potential buyers of the company assets, maybe some class action lawsuit might make it too much of a liability not to actually delete the data once requested.

@aral @beyondmachines1 OMG, it's even worse! They keep the physical samples (it's a logistics challenge, no wonder they're going under), and requesting deletion of the data doesn't mean the destruction of the sample - you need to make a separate request. Source - this Forbes article:
