@pj @lanodan it's better because most in-tree linux filesystems are not suitable for rootfs for a variety of reasons

linux has tons of them (compared to other unix-likes) but few are reasonably feature-complete (many are read-only, most don't support extended attributes, some don't support random stuff like journal, e.g. hfsplus)
