So I am not writing this novel, but I have to share the opening with the entire world, because … well, it starts:

"The escape room was full of skeletons."

This _does_ sound like a good opening for a Persephone Hazard story.

        Hallstatt Charnel House
The world-famous charnel house in St. Michael’s ChapelAlongside the world’s oldest salt mine and the idyllic, world-famous postcard view, the charnel house or ‘Bone House’ in St. Michael’s Chapel is one of the most interesting tourist sites in Hallstatt. The chapel dates back to the 12th century and is located next to the catholic parish church. Each year, visitors from throughout the world come to admire the unusual collection of over 600 artistically painted skulls. Many of the skulls were decorated at the end of the 18th century, but a few are from even the 20th century.Historical BackgroundSkull painting...

@cstross did you ever read "An Examination of the Work of Herbert Quain"? One of my favourite Borges pieces, compresses lots of book ideas into a survey of a fake author, made me think of it as it mentions one novel being only understood properly when the last line is read
