@arcana @icedquinn @fial @mia I suspect the paper is true tbh

@sun @arcana @fial @mia i read a lot of papers and books and to an extent stopped caring about more than the metaphysical obligation to provide the citations.

@icedquinn @arcana @fial @mia I don't bother either, I mean there are showing studies that evidence doesn't work so why try

@sun there is something of a metaphysical requirement to provide the rope. like if someone is doing a very bad job at something, pointing them towards a proper resource to avoid cutting themselves. but you have no obligation to force someone to be free, or do better, other than you made it possible for them to do it

@icedquinn @arcana @fial @mia this is embarrassing but I don't actually know what neurotypicals do when they are given information they don't want to absorb. like do they literally feel nothing when they don't click the link or do they get nervous about it and block you in anger at being put in that position, or do they just block you because the intuitively follow ingroup rules and ignore outgroup

@sun @arcana @fial @mia they typically cope out in disbelief (see: arcana), invent some narrative to help them be offended (see: fial), or awkwardly exit stage left.

@sun @arcana @fial @mia the psyche requires itself to be cool and good (dale carnegie) and anything which threatens this stance requires what i usually call emotional divestment, where they have to muster up excuses to make you the villain so they are justified in the rejection

@asa @arcana @fial @icedquinn @mia so they just interpret it as a dominance flex way before they engage in any kind of thought about whether the idea is acceptable?

@sun @icedquinn @arcana @fial @mia they only understand one thing, monkey social status dynamics, if you provide them new information that they don’t know they are going to feel that you are acting like you are above them and are going to try to reverse that

@arcana @fial @mia @sun this same process happens in break-ups in general where people start to hate and resent stuff about a person they genuinely didn't care about before the break-up. they *need* that person to be villified.

@icedquinn @arcana @fial @mia to be clear I totally admit that I sometimes resist absorbing information but usually I just need a little while to admit I'm wrong. and it's worth it for me to do some introspection to find out what I'm trying to satisfy when I do that

@asa @arcana @fial @icedquinn @mia I have always dealt with it but I didn't know what their internal process was. my family ate macaroni and cheese and frozen pizza

Yes, most never get to the point of engaging with the idea at all.
How do you not know this, you are in your 40s, Im 29.
Have you never been around low class people, like a manual labor job or a shitty public school.
